Roadmap to Launch: 6 Critical Phases

Phase 1

Concept Evaluation (Website & pTreks Concepts)

Goal: Gather early impressions on the pTreks concept, core value proposition, and overall direction before any app is available to the public.

Access: Public - no sign-up or app required. Everything needed for this phase is on the pTreks marketing website.

Activities: Reading about how groups and treks work on the website, watching overview videos, and forming an opinion on whether pTreks solves a real problem for you.

Status: Ongoing now. Anyone can offer early feedback on this phase using the Concept Feedback link in the footer.

Milestone: Validated core concept resonance and refined messaging before alpha begins
Phase 2

Early Alpha Testing (Foundational System - No Live Treks)

Goal: Stress test core authentication, platform APIs, group settings, and non-live data synchronization.

Access: Invite-only Web Application (strictly limited to 100 Founding Pioneers).

Activities: Creating groups, inviting friends, updating profile details (such as ICE contacts), and testing group management roles (ownership transfer, deletions).

Status: Invite-only. Access is granted to approved testers. Use the application form below to sign up and be approved for early alpha testing.

Milestone: Verified API concurrency limits, bug-free data creation, and solid account settings persistence
Phase 3

Mid Alpha Testing (Solo Live Maps - Web App Only)

Goal: Evaluate live tracking reliability and background geocoding updates with solo users.

Access: Invite-only Web Application (mobile browser enabled, limited to 100 Founding Pioneers).

Activities: Running single-person trek maps via mobile web browser, testing GPS capture accuracy, observing data telemetry, and reviewing real-time analytics.

Status: Invite-only. Access is granted to approved testers. Use the application form below to sign up and be approved for mid alpha testing.

Milestone: Scalable live trek tracking backend and precise solo trek history rendering on web maps
Phase 4

Late Alpha Testing (Solo Live Maps - Native Apps)

Goal: Validate high-frequency location capture, background syncing, and native performance on iOS and Android devices.

Access & Delivery:
• iOS (Apple TestFlight): If accepted, Apple will send you an email invitation link. Use it to download and install the official TestFlight app from the App Store, accept the pTreks invitation, download the native build, and send bug reports or feedback directly via the TestFlight app.
• Android (Google Play testing track): If accepted, Google will send you an email invitation or enable your Google account for the pTreks closed testing track. Use the opt-in link to download and install pTreks directly from the Google Play Store and submit crash data or feedback via the Play Store interface.

Activities: Testing native app builds during solo outdoor activities, validating background tracking reliability during locked screens, and testing emergency triggers (e.g., manual ICE alerts).

Status: Invite-only. Access is granted to approved testers. Use the application form below to sign up and be approved for late alpha testing.

Milestone: Zero location packet drops on iOS and Android background states
Phase 5

Beta Testing (Multi-Participant Live Maps - Web & Native)

Goal: Full stress test of real-time pTreks multi-user environments with group coordinates, instant chats, and safety broadcasts.

Access: Invite-only Web & Native Apps.

Activities: Initiating multi-person group treks, broadcasting live real-time positions to group members, using group text chats simultaneously while trekking, and triggering fall-detection alerts across platforms.

Status: Invite-only. Access is granted to approved testers. Use the application form below to sign up and be approved for beta testing.

Milestone: Complete real-time peer-to-peer sync, dynamic live routing, and production readiness for public launch
Phase 6

Pre-Launch Release Candidate (Commerce & Account Lifecycles)

Goal: Final validation of commerce integrations, end-to-end account lifecycle flows, and premium features before full production launch.

Access: Closed Beta for designated Pioneers & Supporters.

Activities: Upgrading/renewing subscriptions (e.g., via Polar integrations), testing billing portals, modifying tier limits, and confirming overall transactional integrity.

Status: Planned. This phase has not yet been scheduled. Access will be limited to designated Pioneers & Supporters upon completion of the Beta phase.

Milestone: Perfect e-commerce integration, verified checkout overlays, and zero startup crash regressions

Phases, timelines, features, and access criteria are subject to change at any time at PingerWare's sole discretion. This roadmap represents our current planning intent and is not a binding commitment.

Known Testing Limitations

Closed Alpha Known Limitations

Core Feature Gaps

  • Live Collaborative Treks: Not yet available in the Web App alpha phase. Treks can only be started in solo mode or conceptually evaluated on the marketing site.
  • Group Edit/Management Constraints: Basic operations for groups are functional, but advanced features like transfer of ownership, administrative invites, and member blocks are under development.
  • Offline Mode: The Web App requires an active internet connection at all times. Any offline activity or caching behavior is reserved for native app testing tracks in later phases.

Technical & Operational Boundaries

  • Strict Rate Limits: High-frequency API polling and message creation are capped to protect server stability during concurrent testing.
  • Ephemeral Data Purges: Alpha databases and telemetry trails may be periodically reset. Do not save permanent personal data.
  • Non-Optimized Performance: Real-time GPS tracking on mobile browsers is functional but has not been optimized yet for background power saving.
Closed Beta Known Limitations

Live Group Tracking & Performance

  • High Latency on Sync: Real-time group position updates may occasionally experience network-related synchronization delays when tracking multiple members simultaneously.
  • Battery Consumption on GPS: Native mobile background battery drain is still being optimized for multi-user live tracking on some older Android and iOS devices.

Group Chat & Communication

  • Text Messaging Only: Early beta group chats support standard text-based messages and basic emojis only; image uploads, voice notes, and media sharing are reserved for production release.
  • No Offline Chat History: If a team member loses cell signal during a live trek, their unsent chat messages will be queued locally but may not be delivered until network reconnection occurs.

Safety & Fall Detection

  • Occasional False Alerts: Accelerometer-based fall detection settings are undergoing tuning. Rapid manual movements or phone drops may trigger false alerts; please disable the feature if you encounter issues.
  • Cellular Data Dependent ICE: ICE (In Case of Emergency) fallback alerts require a minimum 3G/LTE signal; if testing in extreme backcountry without coverage, alert broadcasting will queue until signal returns.

Subscription & Billing

  • Simulated Billing Phase: The subscription engine is currently in a simulation phase for feature validation. No real currency is exchanged, and payment processing is for testing purposes only.
  • Virtual Gateway Testing: Beta testers can use virtual test credentials to explore tiered features and plan transitions; real payment methods are not required.
